“I have such a weak core, that’s why I have back pain”
“Oh, you don’t need to tell me, my core is so weak” (Slaps tummy to emphasize the point)
“I could never:
come to pole fitness,
do Pilates classes,
do strength training,
run because my tummy’s too weak and fat”
“Ever since I’ve had kids, my core and pelvic floor are just awful, but that’s life/just part of being a women”
I hear statements like these all the time and to be honest, they are simply not true.
I get emails and messages most days asking about learning some pelvic floor exercises to help with problems such as prolapse, incontinence, pelvic and back pain. But the reality is just because you have some pain or dysfunction does not necessarily mean your pelvic floor and core are weak. There are many reasons why we get pain and dysfunction, but to understand why we need to get our geek on and learn some anatomy.
There is a lot of mis-information out there in the real and virtual world. Over the next few blogs I hope to be able to help you understand this seriously cool part of the body (and you will see why I just love my job!)
First up, lets take a loo at the pelvic floor and the pelvic organs.
