Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is a rapidly growing area in Women’s Health…and one of the most rewarding areas for me to work in. It includes a wide variety of symptoms and conditions some of which are:

  • Pain with urination

  • Pain with passing a bowel movement

  • Pain with sexual intercourse

  • Pain in the pelvic bones/joints/buttocks/tail bone

  • Pain in or around the vagina/vulva

  • Pain in the abdomen

Women are often given a diagnosis of their painful pelvic condition but are unsure of what treatment is available. Below are just some of the pelvic conditions physiotherapy can help with:

  • Vaginismus

  • Vulvodynia

  • Vestibulodynia

  • Endometriosis

  • Bladder Pain Syndrome (sometimes called Interstitial Cystitis/ICS)

  • Pudendal neuralgia

  • Pubic Symphysis Pain

  • Coccyx pain

  • Sacroiliac joint pain

Learning about your pain and why you are experiencing it is the first major step in getting on top of it. I could write a book on the above conditions - pain is pain, but what you experience pain is very different.

Women with pain conditions (especially in Pelvic Health) have often been searching for a diagnosis and treatment for a long time. And unfortunately many women get dismissed with their symptoms as just being ‘woman’s problems” or “all in their head”. I will add to this blog with some summaries of the above conditions, but if you have found this page and thinking of making an appointment, I will always be ready listen and make a plan alongside you :-)
